new years

whats up everyone!! it is new years eve and i am still in minot and just finished new years diner at my parents. sadly, my grandma hildigunnar holmfridur einurson-almquist passed away early tuesday morning. for those of you who never met or saw her, she was the 9th child of icelandic immigrants born in 1909. she spoke no english until she had to learn it in grade scool, lived without electicity until she was in her late 30's, spoke 4 languages, and was one of the single most positive influences in my life. she was also a fabulous baker, and made me very chubby my entire life. i loved her very much and miss her terribly already. i will be back in portland next week, and i hope that everyone has had a safe and happy new year..

man oh man

well how was everyones x-mas?? mine was really good and bad. i am actually still in minot, i had to cancel my ticket because my grandmother is in bad shape, so my family is all flying in this week. it is very tiring and frustrating. i have been pretty busy with family stuff, and my older brother might be flying in on wed. minot is still minot, i like it more and more each time i come back. wish i had more to say, but we have all been through this kind of thing before. be back soon..

sorry, i am seriously mad

i hate strom thurmond. i seriously hate him. forget he was 100 and our tax money was paying for his "seat" for the last 25 years, forget he did nothing for this country but waste time in the senate, and forget he was a segregist that fathered a mixed race child, then hid the fact until after he died. i commend his daughter, i think that she did a very brave thing by not saying anything, but i imagine that close to 1 million dollars the last 70 years probably helped that out. i have completely lost faith in our media, the little i had that is. i agree that this is a brave thing that she did, but him, fuk him, he was a powerful politician protected by powerful friends. i have absolutely no respect for him, the thing is, he did not take responsibility for this women, he gave her money, but as far as not recognizing her?? bullshit, why is the media pointing to her as a hero, and saying nothing about him? seriously? if anyone has any input please tell me because i cant find anything on this. he is no better than a deadbeat dad, and that fact that he waited until after he died to come forward with this makes it even more obvious to me that it was covered up for him. any help on this would be great.

towing schmoing

here is an interesting little peice, the city is cracking sown!! tow trucks in portland are run by a few differant companies, and apparently a lot of lots have signs hidden in trees before lots, and tow trucks wait for people to park, then tow them, charge what they want, and dont take credit cards. the gal i work with worked at a tow place for awhile, and said that one compony had 3 or 4 names weird.. take a peek..

tada

here is how downtown portland looks to me in the morning. as long as it isnt dark or raining too much. thats actually sw portland, i work in nw portland, across the road. i am driving on the burnside bridge, the skatepark is right below me. if you want meth, or crack, or a male prostute, turn right after the bridge and cruise around the pearl district a little.

boooored

ol todd got his wisdom teeth out today.. i had all 4 done when i was in 12th grade. in fact, i had nose surgury that thanksgiving, then wisdom teeth over x-mas. the only good think was that i didnt have to haul garbage for the old man over the break. there was also a johnny quest marathon on when i was on the couch. i remember coming home and sleeping in the living room, i was super doped up and couldnt talk. my brothers walked into the room and turned the tv on super loud, started talking, then went downstairs. the noise was killing me and i couldnt talk cause my mouth was swollen shut, i also couldnt sit up or anything, i laid there and moaned until someone wandered in. screw you two.. i also remember my little brother getting dry sockets, thats funny. hey, remember when stevie broke his jaw and then put night train pizza in a blender to drink it? damn, thats funny..

nerds beware

i was just informed by my mother that we will be making lefse the weekend that i get back. by the way, i worked at the lefse factory in that link. now, most lefse that you buy in the stores is made with powdered potatoes, and yes, you can tell the differance. anthony, if you are lucky i will let you have some icelandic pancakes with me, if you are really good i will share with you some kleinur or vineterta, but you have to be good.. oh, on a side note, my grandma hilda has her brown bread recipe in this book they got her nome wrong (they called her helga, what the hell) poot..

worst ever

wow. didnt ride on sat cause it was raining at the mountain.. anyway, i was putting a shelf in my kitchen and putting trucks on a new skateboard all while kind of watching tv. i swear, i saw the worst show ever, it was " a very brady christmas" circa 91 or something. it was by far the worst show i have ever seen, seriosly, does anyone remember it? its making me mad even thinking about it. whats funny is that later on i saw black belt jones on the mexican station, so it was overdubbed in spanish. sunday went to the mountain again, it was nice, but the wind was blowing pretty hard. i am bored, and ready to go home. whee..

hooray

almost time to go home. i bought a jacket at a thrift store the other day. i washed it last night and after it got wet it reeked like old clothes. it stunk up all 10 feet of my apt. on the lighter side i washed all my work pants. hope everyone has a good weekend, but since you are all no doubt at home now, i hope you had a good weekend. i may go to a lakers/blazers game tomorrow night. we will see what happens.. see ya chuuuummmmmmps..

friwhy

wow, one week from now i will be getting ready to go home!! 9 days back in nodak, what could be better?? i cant wait to sit in my parents basement and drink beer. its weird cause the house hasnt changed that much, but there is now 2 windows in the bsement, making it a "real" basement. i guess that my brother and i grew up in illegal rooms. ha, nuts to that. i actually have to work this morning, but i am taking my time at it. its street cleaning day in NW portland, so from 6 to 10 am tow trucks cruise around and tow any car parked on the street.. fukers..

today bites like dentures

larry has been busy today. really busy, and grumpy.. i was trying to do laundry last night. usually its not a problem getting a machine, even with 15+ apartments (my building has 2 washers 2 dryers), but the three times i went done there, someone had beat me to the machines. the third time i saw that the entire floor was covered in water (one of the machines broke again) i was pissed, so i finally tromped back upstairs, and decided that i would just go to the gross ass laundromat by my house. i get there about 8:10, and notice the sign "no loads after 8" god damnit, my laundry just wasnt meant to be done.. i did get to see a couple making out in a car on the street when i went to get some beer though, thats always funny.. that reminds me of a dead cat that someone had put in a plastic soda case and set on the sidewalk. i dont really like cats, but that bummed me out, no one need to be putting dead cats in plastic soda containers.. oh, there is also a house that always has piles and piles of garbage on the yard and the porch, how does that happen??

wow, i did two things today i havent done in years. first i bought a transworld snowboarding magazine, and secondly, i bought a big brother skateboard magazine. like i said, i havent bought either one of those in years, namely because they suck ass. transworld is all ads and handrails, and big brother is a. not funny anymore, and b. no naked chicks, only pictures of poop. first and last purchase of those piles of shit for anthother 4 years. aaagh, that makes me grumy..

friday my day

aaahhh the best part of the day, drinking coffee and sitting on the line. usually no one comes in before 11, so this is relax time!! anyway, Rancid is playing here next week. tickets were 25 buks!! and sold out imediatly. guess who they are playing with?? thats right AFI!! how does that work? i didnt mind afi until they attempted to go "wasted youth souixe souix goth look" never made sense to me, but there is worse stuff out there i guess. anyway, the mountain has no new snow, that means that there is almost no base, rocks rocks rocks!! i may go to the brewfest instead, then maybe shop for some creepers. oh, i forgot how funny emotion eric is. it gets better towards the bottom..

work dump conundrum

oh the work dump. who doesnt love a good long work dump. like clockwork, everyday between 9 and 10:30. there really isnt a better thing to get paid for is there? the work dump is like the non-smokers extra brake. i have a whole stack of conan comics under my desk as well, so i tend to strech it out ( the break you pervs) for as long as possible. i also have to wear long sleave button up shirts, so sometimes i exit said break with a rolled up right sleeve. my boss once saw me walk out of the bathroom with 1 rolled up sleeve and a newspaper, there was no way out of that one. it has been blowing really bad here the last day or so, so there are leaves and garbage everywhere. portland is a really clean city, so thats weird to see (the garbage at least). skated here last night (scroll down to troutdale indoor). it was ok, all pre-fab ramps but it was a nice change from the department (the other indoor). crap, i actually have to work..

make me stop

wow. i did nothing last night. wait, got some bananas, and pancake mix. then watched a little tv. i actually was kind of interested in seeing the simple life show. wasnt that impressed, the family they live with are interesting, cant say that i have seen many people pluck chickens, or have a well in a porch, but hey, it was ok. you can tell that the richie girl is the notty (as in hotty and notty) and pretty much just keeps up with that skinny bitch. the only part that got me was their shopping spree in the beginning. cant say i will go out of my way to see it again. oh and i saw some of the tracey morgan show. i used to really like tracey morgan, and the show looked really funny.. i was actually really disappointed with that one as well. did anyone see it? it was all black white jokes, and i mean thats all it was. they drove those into the ground. wait, there was a highly unrealistic 4 year old that talks like a 65 year old, thats a real original formula, a cocky kid, an edgy dad, the creators should win a god damn emmy.. i guess thats why i never watch tv..

ttuu

well, its tuesday. another blazer gets arrested i dont care for basketball, but the blazers are fun cause they always get busted for drinking and having pot. one guy actually went through security at the airport with pot wrapped in TINFOIL!! then tried to claim the security was being biased when they searched him. forget he set off the fuking metal detector! i think that its funny, and a few weeks ago the DARE program asked to no longer be affiliated with the blazers until they cleaned up their act, turns out superstar sports dudes are just normal people, not models of perfection.. wow, who would have thoughtt? they arrest a dude in gf.. surely we have all read that. that stresses me out cause i have a 19 year old cousin who lives and goes to school in gf and is from crookston, i really cant comprehend how i would feel if she disappeared, especially after they arrest a level 3 sex offender (thats rape, kidnapping and assualt) fuk that

i wish that i had more creative titles like wolf did. anyway, bought the Soviettes album today, and it rules pretty hard. what else, oh thats right, nothing else cause i am bored off my ass. i hate this time of day, its 4:30 and it seems like everyday all i think about is going skating after work, but by the time 4 rolls around, i juts wanna go home, drink a beer or 6, make diner and go to sleep.. my house still stinks like gravy. ok, eat it..

boob

man, had a loooong thanksgiving week. i think that i am done drinking for awhile. at least until the brew fest this weekend.. there are 4 of these a year, summer, fall, spring, and x-mas. the x-mas one is probably the best by far. i cant beleive that i havent been up to the mountain yet. i think that sat and sun will be my first times for the year. i was planning on going, but yesterday was really nice so i ended up in newburg skating with OR_dave. damn, it was a nice day. in other news, i also re-arranged my apt and did laundry. how sweet.
